What is the difference between edge bonding and composite veneers?

Composite Edge bonding is placed on the edge and sides of the tooth to fill in spaces and lengthen/straighten the edges of teeth.

Composite veneers are full coverage i.e they cover the entire surface of the front of the tooth. This is a better option for people who would like bigger changes to the overall shapes and colour of their teeth, or for teeth which have cracks and poor surface texture which would be best covered to create a better cosmetic result.

How long does composite bonding last?

Accepted Answer

On average, composite bonding lasts 3-5 years or longer if looked after well. Regular attendance for  maintenance and polishing appointments is required to maintain composite bonding.

Composite is weaker than porcelain veneers and therefore is more prone to chipping and staining and will need to be replaced sooner.

Many people get composite bonding in preparation for porcelain veneers in the future.

Is tooth whitening painful?

Accepted Answer

Sensitivity during whitening is possible however this can be  minimised by use of desensitising toothpastes.  I always recommend using a sensitive toothpaste in the morning and night such as sensodyne or colgate pro-relief.
